Are those start of year goals gathering dust? Don't worry, it happens to all of us. Even the best goals accompanied by the best plans can end up gathering dust if we don't stay on top of them.

Let's brush off those cobwebs.

Take ten minutes now to run your own Retrospective. That basically just means to analyse how things have gone and what can be done to improve next. I’ve stolen this from my other half who works in software as I reckon it’s a great process that we could use in teaching too! Today we’ll use the structure: START STOP CONTINUE.

🚦 START

  • What can I do to address my current issues?

  • What should I be doing that I’m not doing now?

  • What are some ideas that are worth trying that might improve my success?

🛑 STOP

  • What is not producing the result I’m after?

  • What is blocking my work?

  • What is affecting me negatively?

🔃 CONTINUE

  • What is working well?

  • What is creating value for me/my students?

  • What should I continue trying?

We’re never going to be doing everything perfectly in teaching (or in any single aspect of our lives for that matter) but reflecting on what we have done and using that to inform our future practice is going to keep us moving in the right direction.

Keep up the great work team! Make it happen!
